As protesters march and outrage over the death of George Floyd spreads across the state , company leaders are speaking out against systemic racism within the U.S. On June 1, FedEx chairman and CEO Fred Smith, along side president and COO Raj Subramaniam, sent out a letter to their employees addressing the difficulty .
“The recent killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and lots of others are devastating,” they wrote. “The unrest across the state and therefore the grieving in our local communities are a reminder that we all must keep doing more to make meaningful change and healing.”
They went on to mention that folks must demonstrate empathy and kindness in every action, which these should be topics both in and out of doors the workplace.
“The conversation about treating people with respect, dignity, and acceptance is one that’s necessary and one we must keep going,” Smith and Subramaniam wrote. “And now, quite ever, it’s a priority.”
Smith and Subramaniam also noted what they concede to be the range of FedEx’s workforce, which they asserted not only encourages acceptance and promotes anti-biases but fosters innovation and makes the corporate more competitive.
“We are pleased with our long-standing history of supporting and fostering relationships with organizations that are working to form our society more equitable and just,” they wrote. “We will continue working with the leaders of these organizations to ascertain what more we will do together.”
Currently, 49% of FedEx’s workforce and 35% of its management team are minorities, consistent with its website.
